This summer I’m taking a lot of classes at SVA. One of the classes I’m taking is a portrait-making class. Although I know how to draw people, I’m bad at capturing a person’s likeness, which is why I thought to take the class. Also, I was inspired by looking at the sketch portraits of Sargent…one day when I grow up, I’ll be as talented as him :). Looking at Sargent’s sketches, I see that perhaps my “linear” style of drawing is not appropriate for portraits. I need to work on my shading/modeling. Below are some portraits I did in class…I think for the woman I made her face too long, but the guy is a bit closer to reality.
